When it rains, it pours. Sony has just announced that they’ve begun pushing out updates for four of their devices: the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Arco S, and the hilariously oversized Z Ultra. The first three devices will get improvements in the camera and battery life department, along with two new gestures for the home button. Long pressing will bring up Google Now, and a double tap will call up the app switcher. As for the Z Ultra, you can look forward to the inclusion of the X-Reality engine and smoother touch screen performance.
It’s nice to see Sony updating their devices, though you’ll require a PC or Mac to perform said updates, which is a real bummer in 2013. That’s one of the first things Sony should address if they have any shot at overthrowing Samsung. While I’m on the topic of Sony, now is as good a time as ever to remind you that on September 4th the company is going to hold a press conference in Berlin where it’s expected that they’ll announce the Xperia Z1 and the Z1 mini. Both will have a Snapdragon 800 and a 20 megapixel camera. The Z1 will have a 5 inch display while the mini will tone it down to 4.3 inches.
