Along with its new Xperia lineup of smartphones, Sony also announced the Xperia Touch at MWC. An ultrashort throw projector running Android, the projector essentially turns any table or desk into an interactive surface.
To track the movements on the projection, the Xperia Touch features a barrage of sensors and camera to ensure it effectively turns your desk into a giant touchscreen. The 100 lumen laser diode projector inside the device features a 1366 x 768 resolution, 4000:1 contrast ratio, automatic focus capabilities, and is capable of projecting images between 23 to 80 inches in size. https://youtu.be/dlGYgCf5xrM Since the device runs on Android, you can also use it to run Android apps and games and project it on a table. For the functionality it packs, the Xperia Touch is pretty small and light measuring in at 5.6″ x 5.3″ x 2.7″ and weighing in at 2.1 pounds. Running Android Nougat, the device features 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and a microSD card slot. Other features include USB-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi ac, USB, and HDMI ports. While a unique idea for sure, there are two issues with the Xperia Touch. First, it is only rated to last an hour on its built-in battery. Second and perhaps the biggest deal breaker is its price: At €1499, the Xperia Touch is very expensive and can make people reconsider their decision of buying one. Nonetheless, if the device has managed to catch your attention, it should launch in this spring in selected countries.
