Sony today launched the successor to Xperia A2 — the Xperia A4 — in its home country, Japan. The handset boasts of an identical design and specs as the Xperia Z3 Compact — a handset that Sony had unveiled last year at IFA. This means that the Xperia A4 includes a 4.6-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and a 2,600mAh battery.

Sony’s trademark 20.7MP Exmor R sensor with an F/2.0 lens is present on the rear of the handset, with a 2.2MP shooter in the front. Just like the Xperia Z3 Compact, the Xperia A4 boasts of an IP5/68 rating that makes it dust and water-resistant. The handset will be available in Grey, Blue, White and Pink color in Japan exclusively on NTT DoCoMo’s network. The carrier will also start selling Sony’s Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Tablet in Japan from the summer of 2015.
